kind THINGS PEOPLE HAVE SAID ABOUT ME.

Timothy J. McClimon
Executive Director

Eric stepped into a critical time period at Signature Theatre after we lost our director of marketing in the middle of our theatrical season, and he immediately hit the ground running.  As our interim director of marketing, Eric displayed a fierce determination to keep our marketing and communications efforts humming, and his unflinching dedication to the artists and art that we support showed up in everything that he did for us.  From social media to advertising to signage to collateral materials to photo shoots to direct mail pieces, Eric was focused and intentional while also willing to alter course as needed.  Eric's deep-seeded knowledge of theater immediately won over the members of his staff, and he quickly established himself as an indispensable and respected part of our leadership team.  In three short months, Eric made a huge impact on Signature's season and structure, and we miss his wry sense of humor and commitment to nonprofit theater and the artists that we support.

I had the opportunity to engage Eric Winick in three projects in 2022 and 2023. In all cases, Eric delivered timely, high quality results that drove decisions by me and others in my organization, Common Ground Committee (CGC).

The first was an “activation” project in which Eric proposed how CGC could engage our followers and those interested in our work more deeply. This included ways to better understand who are supporters really are, to identify ways that would drive more frequent engagement and communication back to us by followers, and how to leverage followers’ experiences to further build CGC’s national reputation. Elements included how to brand and differentiate this deeper level of engagement and how to promote it, including the use of social media.

While we have not yet initiated action on this project, what we received has given us both the recognition of how important it will be to undertake this deeper level of engagement, and the foundation and high-level project plan to use when executing. We now have the overview in front of us for important work that is doable and could yield tremendous benefits. Eric’s report, both written and presented, was thorough and well thought out.

The second project was an audit of our website. Here, Eric reviewed its user-friendliness, intuitive nature of its navigation and taxonomy, where it was too complicated or redundant (and thus where we could simplify/streamline), and where there were confusing elements that we could clarify.

This effort both exposed areas where we were “missing the boat” and validated others where we had felt we needed to make some changes. The work included insightful suggestions that ranged from the simple to the nuanced, demonstrating Eric’s command of the subject of what makes a truly great website. We have begun making changes and my expectation is that we will end up adopting the majority of the elements that he has recommended. Frankly, our site was already very good. But Eric’s work is going to help us make it truly excellent.

Lastly, Erik delivered a SWOT analysis of our product set. Personally, I found that work to be the most enlightening of all three projects. I was very impressed by how deeply Eric went and how detailed he was in his evaluation. For example, Eric went deep on other organizations in our space to compare our capabilities to theirs. Another example that truly impressed me was with our podcast series where, using his considerable experience in the podcast domain, he not only evaluated the content, the hosts, and the production quality, but he also looked at things like the strength and challenges of the thumbnail artwork – something we really hadn’t thought about since we first produced it. Again, we are already implementing changes that are a direct result of Eric’s analysis.

Overall, our experience with Eric has been extremely positive and valuable. I am not only confident in recommending him to others considering the above kinds of projects but I am quite certain we will be engaging him again.

Eric is a pleasure to work with. He is thoughtful and creative, and puts his all into every project. He did a remarkable job of getting to know the details of our program, target market, and our competition, and was able to create beautiful ads and videos to help us tell our story in the most eye catching way possible. Eric is a team player and cares deeply that all elements of the process are clearly planned and coordinated. He works tirelessly to satisfy all of those engaged in the project and be sure that all voices are hard to produce the best product.

After only six months of working for us, Eric has become indispensable to our organization.  He came aboard when we needed to make a change to our communications staff and intensify our marketing efforts for a new initiative for our religious school.  He hit the ground sprinting, and our campaign was more successful than anyone could have imagined.  Eric was able to understand and anticipate our needs immediately.  His energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and he has an unparalleled work ethic. Since then, he has overseen our marketing efforts including all social media, weekly and email blast announcements, signage, paid advertising and communications with event/program coordinators.  I consistently hear positive feedback about our social media posts, and we are getting more engagement than we ever have. I know that I can always count on Eric to keep track of everything we have done – he is my World Book Encyclopedia.  Eric has also become the point person for our website redesign project.  He keeps us on track and is my North Star for decisions regarding design and content. He is dependable, forthright, and despite regular challenges and setback manages to always retain a sense of humor. I could not do my job without him.

Every project I’ve worked on with Eric was elevated through his excellence in marketing and communications strategy, masterful storytelling ability, and vast knowledge of the market. Eric makes understanding an audience into an art form. Whether crafting key messaging to support meaningful social change on behalf of a nonprofit,  leading crisis communications in a pandemic, or building a campaign with aggressive revenue targets, Eric can focus an individual or team on the highest and best use of dollars, time, and marketing investment. Additionally, Eric’s spirited personality, amiable nature, bottomless well of cultural knowledge, and relationship-building skills make for an excellent partnership. He harnesses the talent and creativity of those he works with and channels it back into the energy of the project. The results are gratifying and extraordinary.

Eric was incredibly helpful in making my marketing emails more organized, consistent, and eye-catching, while making them more effective tools for my photography businesses.  He created templates for different categories of emails, put together a logical send schedule, and crucially, helped gather a story bank of testimonials, images and posts that can be used as building blocks for future emails.  Emails are much easier and quicker to put together now, so I have no excuse for not getting in touch with my clients.

He also did a deep dive on my business -- he researched my competitors' marketing efforts, and identified ways to make my work stand out.  He also overhauled the graphic look of my emails, including headers and graphical text boxes, and he even whipped up a clean, new logo (above) that was not a part of the original scope of work.  I look forward to working with Eric on the next phase of my marketing upgrade!
